The World Biogas Association (WBA) has announced it will attend COP31, the UN Climate Change Conference taking place in Antalya, Türkiye, from 9 to 20 November 2026. In its announcement of 5 November 2026, the association said it will promote biogas at the conference as a way to cut methane from organic waste, accelerate the circular economy and advance the energy transition.

Delegation and booth

The WBA delegation includes Chief Executive Charlotte Morton OBE and Head of External Affairs Giulia Ceccarelli. The association will exhibit at Booth 24 from 16 to 20 November.

Recalling that methane is responsible for around one-third of global warming, WBA’s announcement stresses that COP31 must turn methane ambition into action.

A biogas session at the Zero Waste Pavilion

WBA’s own session, “Making Biogas Happen: Organic Waste as a Zero Waste and Climate Solution”, will take place at the Zero Waste Pavilion on 10 November from 13:30 to 14:30. The association links the session to Türkiye’s Zero Waste model and the Istanbul Declaration on Zero Waste.

Other events on WBA’s programme include:

  • 10 November: WBA will attend the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) roundtable “Waste to Revenue: Circular Economics of Biofuels”, the side event “CEM on the Belém 4X Pledge” and “From Waste to Waves”, on turning urban methane into low-carbon shipping fuels across the Global South.
  • 11 November, 15:30-16:30: “Biogas and Black Soldier Fly: Circular Climate Action for Safeguarding Protein, Energy, and Soil” at the CGIAR Food and Agriculture Pavilion in the Blue Zone, co-hosted by the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the World Bank Group, FAO, CGIAR, the PREVENT Waste Alliance and WBA.
  • 13 November, 09:00-10:00: the GBA panel “Scaling Sustainable Biogases: Unlocking Policy, Technology and Investment for a Secure Energy Future”.
  • 16 November, 11:20-13:00, Side Event Room 5 (HATTUŞA): the official COP31 side event “Accelerating Action: Implementing Solutions to Reduce Methane from Organic Waste”, organised by CCAC, WBA, GAIA, QCF and Nipe Fagio, covering community composting, Black Soldier Fly farming and food waste and methane commitments in Africa.
